Inspired New Work in Centennial Celebration of the
Russian Avant-Garde

The Russian avant-garde was a large, influential wave of avant-garde modern art popular in the Russian Empire and Soviet Union, approximately from 1890-1930, although some have placed its beginning as early as 1850 and as late as 1960.  The term covers many seperate, but inextricably related movements that flourished at the time; namely Suprematism, Constructivism, Russian Futurism, Cubo-Futurism, Zaum, and the movement Neo-Primitivism.

The following square sculptures are Suprematist based derivatives, deviating from the Suprematist visual principles that dictate flat, geometric forms presented on white backgrounds.  They represent an art language progression, the object embodiment of the non-object.
